Life can get really busy. Trying to find time to spend with your friends and family is sometimes hard if you’re too busy with work or college. You have a lot of things to do but not enough time. And completing all of your tasks nearly impossible. But guess what? By managing your time better you can get things done!
Get a planner and actually use it
Okay, this is something you definitely have heard before. And the reason you probably heard it is that it is effective! If you don’t want to carry a planner everywhere, then just download an app on your phone. There are tons TONS of apps you can use. If you’re a college student I recommend using Pocket Schedule (available on App store). It is amazing! you can put all your assignments, exams, organization meetings and more! There are apps like Schedule planner and Todoist (apple). aCalendar or Wunderlist available for Android as well. Planners have weekly, daily and even monthly overviews which allow you to write all your task, ideas and events, so you can have an idea of how your day or week is going to be like. This way you won’t forget anything and you’ll be mentally prepared for busy days! If you do have a normal planner there are a lot of ways you can organize it, there’s more freedom in that way. Anyway, that’s how the app I use looks like.
Which tasks are currently more important? Submit an assignment due in 2 hours or go to target and buy some things you ran out of? If your answer is that going to target is more important, you’re wrong (I wish you were right though). You have to set priorities, do the most important task first and then do the less important ones. There are some things that can wait… Not an assignment though. And it’s better to do the most difficult tasks first, instead of doing them at the last minute. And doing the fun tasks at the end.
Try to wake up early
If you have 8 am classes you already do this and I feel bad for you. But if you’re like me and your classes start at 11 or later than 8 am you should wake up early and get things done! And of course, avoid going to sleep really late (during the week). On weekdays I wake up at 7 and go to the gym then I have breakfast and then go to class. And it took me more than a month to actually find the will to wake up that early (I’m not a morning person). I know myself and I know that if I don’t go to the gym in the morning I won’t go to the gym at all, not only that day but that week or year… So, wake up early and get things done! Do your homework, submit assignments and do some errands.
Plan your week
I do this every single Sunday, having an overview of my week is something important to me because that way I can organize 3my time and feel prepared and ready. Seeing what assignments I have to submit that week, planning my blog posts and just other things that aren’t necessarily school related, is essential. But, I plan fun things as well, every other week I like to go to a place I’ve never been before and since I recently moved to Cincinnati (for college) everything’s new to me. You can also make a meal plan, or whatever you want to plan for your week or month.
Take some time to plan your day every day
If you always have different things or events or meetings showing up last minute and you’re unable to see how your day it’s going to look like. Then just take some minutes whenever you have time between the day to organize your day. You can wake up a little bit earlier and do it or you can do it the night before. It doesn’t take long to do it and it really helps you to stay organized.
And the last tip: Understand that sometimes it’s not possible to get everything done. So, don’t stress out, sometimes time isn’t enough and it’s not your fault. Please, take care of yourselves, don’t mess your sleep cycle up and try to sleep at least 7 hours a day. Take some time to just relax and unplug from work, school and other things.
